The nights are starting to roll out and it's only 12 weeks until what is many golfers favourite event of the year - The Masters!
After last weekend the excitement has already started. Seeing Jordan Spieth shoot -30 to win by 8 shots is a good indication of a great year ahead for both him and the viewing public!
Hawaii looked a million miles away from the bleak weather we have been experiencing recently. It's easy to get despondent, but the reality is that new records have been broken with rainfall and the drainage is certainly working better than in the past.
Whilst the standing water quickly went from the course, the ground itself is saturated thanks to the fact we have not had more than 48 hours without rain since the end of October!!!
Let's all keep our fingers crossed that this weather forecast is correct for the next few days
Mike and his team have been keeping busy this week with particular attention on paths and clearing areas of undergrowth. A combination of this work and the winter tee program will not only enhance and increase enjoyment of winter golf, but also ensure that the course is presented in greater condition much sooner in the "playing season".
A great example of this can be seen around the 8th tee area. The new winter tee location gives a great new offering for the hole whilst at the same time has kept the wear away from the "summer tee". With the clearing work that has also been done, the tee is in great shape and will be super to play off at the start of the season rather than recovering for several weeks as has been the case previously.
There is now also a new path to use on the 18th to reach the fairway. Players will now be guided through the trees as far as the ditch rather than walking the usual way over the rigs and furrows.
Many thanks to the members who have made a special effort to come to the Pro Shop since our JanuarySALE started on Saturday. We have continued our great sale offerings and here are just a few examples:
The saturated ground has now meant that range balls now have to be collected by hand, but we are endeavouring to keep disruption down to minimum as we want as many members as possible coming to use our facility!!
If anyone has made a new year resolution to clear their garage out and they have found some unwanted golf balls we will gladly take them off your hands!!
The range goes through lots of balls and even a "thin" can plug at the moment!!
And finally
Thankfully the flooding has not left a situation like what happened in Australia after some flooding there.
I hope you like the rest of the newsletter and the articles I have for you below. Enjoy the read.
