After reporting about member Jez Hansbro
enjoying a trip to the Masters, another of our members Tim Clarke
has just had a great day at Wentworth caddying for Rafa Cabera Bello in the ProAm on Wednesday.
One of the "Majors" was held on Saturday - the 36 Hole Strokeplay championship
. This is always a great event and very keenly contested as you would expect. With a mixture of ages across the 36 competitors, they all did their best to empty the range machine before teeing off.
With a slender 1 shot lead after his morning round of 72, Phil Little
had a few players close behind going into the afternoon round, including Mark Metcalfe
with his 73 which included an incredible run of 2,3,2 on holes 5,6,7.
It remained very close indeed, and it was Mark who went on to win by 1 shot after his 2nd round 74, nudging Guy Webster
and Mark Newton
into 2nd place.
Seeing Mark win was absolutely fantastic and thoroughly deserved. Mark's passion for the game is still as strong as ever, and he has been working hard on his game. Far be it for me to say "there's life in the old dog yet", after all, Mark is only 53 going on 35.
It's also worth a mention that it is 31 years since Mark first won the event, and 21 years since the last time. Most of the competitors were in the 21-31 age group!
Superb achievement against the "young guns" - well done Mark.
Congratulations to Val Barrass
winning the Ladies event on Sunday, and also congratulations to Jean Myers
winning on Tuesday. It is great seeing the enthusiasm within the increasing Ladies section and we are very keen to keep this going.
Our next "taster day"

I also have to pass on my congratulations this week to Jane McArthur
who shot an ace this week.
Great work Jane...
The warm days (sometimes) and showers have made sure that the grass is well and truly growing now after the slow start to the season.
In order to help keep the pace of the greens, they were triple vertical-cut this week, and it is staggering seeing how much grass is removed from the greens during this work.
With lots of activity on the course we have re-introduced the divot boxes on selected holes and it is very much appreciated when members help with this.Click here
