The enthusiasm around our club is just fantastic. Yet another week has flown by with lots of activity on both the course and the range.
Compliments have been coming in from both members and visitors alike. In particular there have been 2 areas receiving lots of praise.
"Best greens we have played on this year" has been one of them, and considering quite a few who have said this have been on golf tours playing nearby well known courses, this is high praise indeed.
An example of the other "area" the praise has been directed at can be shown by what a visitor said yesterday:
"I've played here numerous times over the years and never seen the course as good as it was today and the changes you have made are fantastic".
This recognition, alongside the fact we are bucking national trends with membership numbers and participation bodes very well for the future of the club and forthcoming projects.
There has been tremendous entries in recent competitions and yes........... Pupils and products performed fantastically, and continue to dominate the results list. Nearly 190 competitors played in the June Medal in glorious conditions.
The Mid-week medal on Wednesday had had over 120 competitors enjoying the sunshine. Very well done to Adam Mierzwinski who shot a superb 73, nett 66 to win by one shot over Steve Pycroft.
Congratulations to Ronnie Davison on winning the Ladies medal on Sunday, and also many congratulations to Christine Ivel winning the medal on Sunday with a fantastic score of 68 (-5).
We've had another great week on the range with lots of 1-1 lessons as well as Ladies group coaching, Ladies Academy group coaching and Junior coaching.
If you would like any further information on coaching regarding either 1-1 or our group sessions please click here.
Many, many congratulations to Nick Audsley who won the York Union Seward trophy at Pike Hills on Sunday with his great score of nett 67.
Also very well done to James Kay who finished runner up after his 69.
With the course looking so great, we have a super offer to make sure all the golfers on it look good too.
Last year our Shirt Amnesty offer proved enormously popular, and I'm sure it will prove even more popular this year as we have such a great selection of shirts to choose from.
Starting this Friday, 10 June, you will receive £10 OFF
any marked shirt when you trade in an old one, regardless of its age, brand or condition.
The picture shows just a sample of the shirts that were traded in last year. Bring your old shirt into the pro shop and get your hands on some fresh new clothing for the season ahead.
As mentioned earlier, both the course and the range have both been busy, and in particular the grass tee on the range.
This year the surface has been improved further, and rye grass seeds have been used which grow 4 times quicker so the grass can recover quicker for more use.
The Greenstaff have requested that members do kindly fill divots they have taken before leaving the range.
The photo shows a scene that is unfortunately too often the case, sporadic divots not filled in and a basket left there.
Your help with this matter is much appreciated.Hole in One
Congratulations to Stuart Semple
who recently scored a hole in one on the 11th.
This is Stuart's 3rd hole in one, all of which have been here at York, all on different holes.
There is only the 17th that Stuart needs to Ace out of all the par 3's here.
Motocaddy Electric Trollies
Our latest member to enjoy the benefits of using a Motocaddy electric trolley is Trevor Bailey
As many of you will know Trevor has either carried his clubs or used a manual trolley over the years. Despite many of us thinking he is Superman at times with the numerous hours he works helping out on the course, Trevor has said he cannot believe how much better he feels after a game for having used the Motocaddy. As reported last week the willow tree by the 9th green was a casualty of the high winds.
On the positive side it now means that the half way house can be seen whilst playing the 9th, and when you are taking a break at the half way house you can actually see the course too.
With it being more visual, it has had some TLC this week and Stevie Hood
along with Rob Taylor
have spent a good few hours this week working on it and
I'm sure you will all agree they have done a super job.
Many thanks for your help gents.
