I would like to start this week by saying a huge thank you to everyone who took part last Friday in our Professionals Day event. Amongst the 172 who played there was a great mix of men and ladies along with a mix of members, guests and visitors. We even had one visitor join the club after playing..
The weather was absolutely gorgeous and Mick and his team presented the course in superb condition too which was reflected in the scoring.
Eight team prizes were up for grabs with a prize table valued at over £2800. There were also some fantastic prizes generously supplied by Turnbulls Mazda.
Thankfully no one had a hole-in-one on the 7th which avoided any confusion as the car on the tee was the prize for a weekend for nearest the pin...
Many congratulations to the winning team from Rockliffe Hall whose score of 91 points narrowly beat Tom & June George, Tom Brown & Chris Little whose score of 91points "only" had 46 on the back nine ..
87 points was 3rd and that was followed by 6 scores of 85 points, the last of which was 9th and just outside the prizes, but despite narrowly missing out on a team prize Mark Metcalfe managed to win the car for the weekend after hitting it to 34" on the 7th, so he has the pleasure of an MX5 for the weekend. I hope the weather is just as good so you can have the roof down Mark.
Many thanks to Clive Owen LLP who kindly co-sponsored the event. I have known Clive for over 25 years, and whilst he is a great personal friend he has also developed a fantastic company with offices in Darlington, Durham and York.

Many thanks also to Martyn Turnbull (aka Turnbulls Mazda) for supplying great prizes on the 7th and 11th.
Our final thank you is to everyone who played and made the event such a huge success. Next year's date will be released next week so be quick to secure a time.
There is no let up for our greenstaff at the moment as the next phase of the course development is now underway. There are further exciting "tweaks" on holes 2, 4, 5 and 12.
2nd hole work:
Just before the work started on Monday, a new ditch was also created on the 18th which should help significantly with the drainage in that area. Members will appreciate that there will be some hole closures over the coming few weeks and we can advise in the Pro Shop each day which holes are affected.
As you play round the course you will see lots of markings in preparation for the work and it would be greatly appreciated if retrieving a ball from a marked bunker you try and avoid disturbing the markings.
Some good news for many of you is that the fairway bunker on the 5th is actually getting filled in rather than reduced. This is being replaced by 2 new further bunkers on each side of the fairway much further away from the tee. Another piece of good news for some is that the gap between the bunkers on the 2nd has been increased too. At the time of typing this mail the work has been completed on the 2nd and it looks wonderful..
There is a huge amount of turfing work to commence now and if any members are keen to volunteer to help it would be greatly appreciated. Please contact our Greens Chairman/Captain
Our Ladies section continues to flourish and be as vibrant as ever. Our latest Academy session was great on Saturday and it was wonderful seeing how they are all progressing.
Many congratulations to our latest Academy member Penny Donaldson who has just achieved her handicap of 36. Very well done Penny.
Many congratulations to Jackie Hately and Gay Enos on winning the Wilkinson Coasters on Tuesday with an incredible nett 61.5. Their gross was a brilliant 67 and there was only 1 hole closed.
Also very well done to Collette Watson and Judith Twist who won the Foursomes competition for the 5 and weekday members
Very well done also to Christine Smith who had a hole in one on the 11th on Tuesday.
Over the past week there has been two 'major' finals played
In the Howell trophy it was not Dave v Goliath but Dave Blacketer verses Dave Holder. After a great game the spoils went to the much decorated Dave Holder. Well done Dave
The Wilson Bowl final was also played to determine our Club Champion. Chris Lone was playing Phil Little, and Chris was in superb form over the 2 rounds to claim the coveted title. Well done Chris
