What a fantastic day last Friday was!
Many thanks to everyone who supported our event. We had the most fantastic start with a beautiful sunny morning and a welcome increase in temperature.
46 teams played and we had a great mix of members, members with guests and visitors with both many Ladies and Gents playing.
In addition to over £3000 worth of prizes, 3 balls for every competitor and a meal after playing, there was also the superb prize on offer for the first Hole-In-One on the 17th kindly supplied by
www.turnbulls-mazda.co.uk.
The 2nd person to attempt to win the car was
Chris Lone who came very close indeed. In fact there were quite a few close shaves during the day but unfortunately no one managed the feat so it was down to me to drive the sporty number away from the tee and back to the car park at the end of the day!

During the day it was great to see how much everyone enjoyed themselves. The feedback received was wide ranging and superb regarding all aspects of York GC. For some it was their first visit since the CDP had started and for others it was their first game here altogether. I'm sure there will be some very positive marketing being done all around the county by competitors!
As mentioned there was over £3000 worth of prizes and the scoring certainly showed how keen everyone was to win. In the end it was a superb score of 91 points by a team from Boothferry GC who won the overall prize of a custom fit TaylorMade M2 driver.
The winning Ladies team score was a great 81 points by
Pat Clark,
Carolyn Francis,
Judith Twist and
Pauline Beal who will all be modelling some nice Rohnisch tops!
Once again many thanks to everyone involved who helped make Friday a great day.
We are already taking bookings for next year's event (Friday ) which already has some exciting developments in the pipeline to coincide with my 10th Anniversary at York GC.
The warmer and sunnier weather has certainly got many members in the mood to freshen up their wardrobe. Not only are we the leading Under Armour stockist in the area but we also have extensive ranges from Galvin Green, FootJoy, adidas and the superb Ladies Rohnisch collection.
The drier conditions are also ideal for changing to summer shoes with the spikeless ranges of shoes being the ideal choice. Have you tried spikeless yet?
We have great selections for both Men and Ladies so why not call in try some on.
I'm not sure if it was the team practice sessions or the tongue in cheek remark they will be picking up range balls if they lost, but the Ladies have had a fantastic start to their matches over the past week. There were 2 'A'team matches, a 'B' team and a scratch team match and the Ladies won all 4 matches. Very well done ladies!
Our Academy sessions have started again with the next session this coming Saturday at 11am. If you know of any Lady with little or no experience who may like to come along and join our session please get in touch by
clicking here.
In addition to encouraging more Ladies into golf we are also keen to promote more juniors too. As part of our recruitment drive we hosted a 'Girls Rock' taster session for girls on Sunday. We had 14 girls from around the area come along and the event went very well and we look forward to the follow coaching sessions over the weeks ahead.
It's been a busy few days for competitions with the Bank Holiday. The 2nd team Trophy on Saturday was won by
Chris Lone and
Ryan Duiga with an incredible nett 59 (gross 61). Interestingly this is a better score than
Chris did in the 4 man team the day before! Well done guys - superb score.
The Wardrop Cup on Monday had nearly 200 competitors play in this mixed event. There was some great scoring with a 4-way tie on net 67 which means a play-off is required. Well played
Vanessa Hart,
Neil Grant,
Alex Nelson and
John Suddes. Well done also to
Glen Renton winning the gross with his 74.
The Ladies had their first medal and Leetham Qualifier on Sunday with
Pauline Beal winning with her net 75. Medal no.2 was held on Tuesday with
Jill Irwin winning with her net 70. Very well done Ladies.
