What a fantastic last few days at the club. To be honest it's been a whirlwind with so much going on I cannot believe it's been a week since typing out the last newsletter.
Over 200 competitors took part on Saturday for Captain's day and it was non stop from 6.30am through till 5pm when TJ and I enjoyed a well-earned pint!!
This year we decided to change the usual challenge on the 7th hole. Rather than hit the green to win 3 x balls we gave 3 balls out if you scored a 3 or better.
I wanted to photograph the first person to win 3 balls and I didn't have to wait long as Paul Newell made a super "up and down" in the opening 3 ball to win his prize.
Scoring a par proved difficult with only 26% of the field winning 3 balls which just goes to show how tricky our signature hole is.
The lucky/skilful 26% of the field collected their balls from the half-way house but everyone enjoyed their visit after the 9th as the hospitality and refreshments were superb. I have to confess to sampling the offerings before seeing Paul make his par!!
As for the main event it was a very close affair with a few 39/40 points scored, but Andy Bell came in later on during the day with a superb score of 44 points to claim the main prize. I have to say I was so delighted to see Andy achieve this great result as he has worked hard on his game, combining lessons with some new equipment!!
Andy did warn you all in his speech I would be mentioning this!!!
On a serious note, it was wonderful to see Andy achieve his result along with several other competitors who featured on the results list who have had lessons or custom fits. This only goes to show that here in the Pro Shop we offer the services you need to enjoy your golf more. Click here to arrange a lesson or custom fit.
Hard to believe........
It's not very often we have members arriving with the same attire but how about this.......Shortly after Steve Arundel arrived, Dave Kirk arrived sporting the same outfit although shorts rather than trousers.
The Mixed Event
The Mixed Event on Sunday also proved to be a showcase for our services with some superb scoring. Many congratulations to Alan and Val Barrass winning with a fantastic nett 64.

Lady Captain's Event
Marion also had a fantastic day for her Lady Captain's event on Tuesday. There was a super entry of 70 ladies playing and enjoying a fantastically presented course. Just like with the men's event we were giving 3 balls for a par or better on the 7th, and 20% of the field managed to claim a prize.
With some very close scoring at the top of the leaderboard it was Elaine Hulley who claimed top prize with 38 points. Very well done Elaine!!!
In addition to competition entries and 1-1 lessons over the weekend, we also held our latest Ladies academy session and it will not be long before we are reporting their successes in competitions either!
In recognition of our work in introducing more people to golf, the national organisation of England Golf has chosen us along other pro-active Golf clubs across the UK to deliver more "get into golf" sessions over the coming weeks, so look out for next weeks' newsletter for more details so you can encourage your friends, neighbours, family etc to enjoy this great game by attending sessions we will have on offer over the coming weeks.
I would just like to say a big thankyou to everyone who has sponsored us or bought raffle tickets for our Longest Day Golf Challenge fund raising event in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Just a little reminder that there are still tickets available for the night party after we have played 72 holes starting at 4.30am!
It is on Friday 4th July at the golf club, kicking off at 8.00pm. There will be music from local York band 'The Cover Lovers' and an all you can eat buffet provided by 'Hickory's Roadhouse Diner'. There is also a raffle and an auction with a huge selection of prizes like a 4-ball at The Belfry PGA, 4x nights stay for 2 at different Best Western hotels plus many many more.
