Wow! What a Ryder Cup that was! I was fortunate to be there all 3 days courtesy of an invite from TaylorMade and Foremost for Friday along with tickets through the PGA for Saturday and Sunday for James and I.
I have to say the atmosphere, venue and organisation were absolutely fantastic. It was interesting seeing how "normal" the players were on the opening day as they were so tense and nervous and they "didn't have a card in their hand "!
There were so many amazing moments and shots making the event quite memorable. Throughout the 3 days we had great viewing positions and spending the days in great company also added to the occasion.
As the debate continues about why we won and they lost, my own opinion is that their choice of clothing helped us. Can you imagine Tom Watson handing the sweaters out and the team saying "do we really have to wear this Captain?"

Before driving up to the Ryder Cup on Thursday, I played in the Ladies Winter Alliance Pro Am at Bridlington Golf Club.
We had 2 teams from York playing and with Steve on holiday and TJ required in the shop, our second team had Martyn Stubbings from Rockliffe Hall join them. In windy conditions and very quick greens scoring was tough for all 40 teams.
In addition to the main prizes, there were the usual side bets courtesy of bookmaker patclark365.com! I am pleased to say that my team of Val Barrass, Pat Clark & Veronica Waters won the side bet although we were not far behind the team prize.
The top 6 professional scores also won money and my score of 77 (+5) was one shot too many or I should have said one putt too many!
Thank you to all York Ladies once again for a great day.
Course developments
The fantastic weather has been a great bonus for the work currently going on.
Progress since last week's newsletter has been tremendous as the pictures show. This is such an exciting time for us all at York GC and the positive comments from both members and visitors alike have been great to hear! Well done guys (and Andy!!!!!) and keep up the good work.
Mike and I played our first match of the coming series on Wednesday against the formidable pairing of Richard Flanagan and Dave Horner. Knowing how many shots were being given made me uneasy knowing what they are capable of and I was quite right as the open holes showed!
It was a great game with some great scoring including Mike's 4 x birdies which resulted in us winning 2 & 1 Many thanks Richard and Dave for your great company and a great game.
Week Ahead-
Next week we will all be attending the Golf Show at Harrogate. This is a great week as not only do we get to see new products for the 2015 season but it is also a chance to catch up with colleagues and attend seminars aimed at the many aspects of our job and the services we provide.
On the Wednesday night is the Foremost and Golf Monthly Industry Awards ceremony and I am delighted to say I have been chosen as one of four nominees for the "Pro of the Year "award. This is a huge honour so please keep your fingers crossed!
Final Note -
We look forward to seeing you over the weekend and don't forget to use your vouchers.
