Captain's Drive In

With the clocks changing this weekend it is all systems go!

Many, many congratulations to our new Captains, Neil and Judy after they struck great drives on Sunday’s Drive-In event. I am sure you will all join us in wishing Neil and Judy all the very best for their year.

Well done to Val Barrass correctly guessing the combined drive yardage of 416 yards

Competition news

The Golf Sixes

It has been a busy few days on the competition front over the past few days. The Golf Sixes event last Sunday proved enjoyable for those taking part.

Many congratulations to Will Thomson and Lady Captain Judy on winning the event and best of luck to you both in the regional final later in the year. Great start to your year Judy!

Ladies Scramble

As always there was another great entry for the Ladies Scramble event on Tuesday and very well done to Natalie Hewitt, Anette Enzor, Ronnie Davison and Paul Beal winning with their great score of 64.2

Ambassador Cup

On Sunday I flew to Bordeaux to play in the TaylorMade Ambassador Cup at the Golf Du Medoc complex. This is the 4th time the event has been played it is quite an honour to play in it alongside the other 49 TaylorMade Ambassadors from across Europe.

The hospitality was absolutely amazing and even included a trip to a vineyard during the first two practice days.

I must admit standing amongst oak barrels holding 500000 bottles worth of wine valued at 25 million euros was quite a feeling. Suffice to say the wine tasting was quite an experience!

As for the main event I was the first game off and drawn to play Chris Steele who happens to be the Foremost Chairman too.

We had a great game which was close all the way but I unfortunately lost on the 17th. The whole trip was a fantastic experience although as I write this my clubs are still missing from the return flight so fingers crossed they turn up!

Range news

Heading Into Spring

As we head into Spring it is vital that we retrieve as many balls from the range that are plugged or in the boundaries themselves. Many thanks to John Enos, Ken Myers, Steve Watson, Captain Neil and Mal Greaves who came today to help the collection. Your help was very much appreciated!

Please remember that we always accept any unwanted golf balls to help with the range operation. Range closure times for the week ahead are:

Fri 29th 2.30-4.30pm
Sat 30th 3-4.30pm
Mon 1st April Closed till 10am
Thurs 4th April Closed till 10.30am

Ladies news

Ladies Get into Golf Sessions

Since introducing the Ladies Academy we have enjoyed great success with many new Lady members joining as a result. We are about to start our Get-into-Golf taster sessions and would welcome any Ladies interested in having a go at this game we all enjoy.

The sessions are great fun and aimed at beginners or those who have a go in the past. They are free and open to anyone to come along and have a go. All equipment is provided.

Entering his prime?

“I’m getting older, but I feel I’m getting better” – Paul Casey.

There’s hope for us all yet then. 41-year-old Englishman Paul Casey claimed his own piece of PGA Tour history by becoming the first man to successfully defend the Valspar Championship at the weekend.

For Casey, it seems victories are like buses; you wait nine years between tournament wins and then two come along in the space of 12-months, and it could not have come at a better time. Three weeks out from The Masters, the entire field toiled during windy conditions on the Copperhead Course but, despite shooting a 1-over 72 on Sunday, Casey held his nerve to steal a one-shot victory.

Winner: Paul Casey

Valspar Championship

Before Sunday's play commenced, many thought it would be a Ryder Cup-style shootout between world number one Dustin Johnson and Casey. However, this never really materialised as DJ struggled to his first over-par final round since the Genesis Open (mid-Februray!) with a three-over-par 74.

With no birdies, it also proved to be the first time since the 2017 WGC HSBC-Championship that Johnson failed to record a single hole under par in a final round. Despite this, the American still ended tied-sixth for his fourth straight top-ten finish; not bad for an off day.

Quiz time

Paul Casey’s back-to-back Valspar victories is impressive stuff, but he is not the first Englishman to win the tournament.
