It's Masters week Augusta has had its turn so now it’s back across the pond to our shores as the British Masters kicks off at Hillside Golf Club in Southport later this week. Hometown hero Tommy Fleetwood hosts the event with Eddie Pepperell looking to make a successful defence of the title he won last year. With the PGA Championship getting underway next week in New York, the British Masters is last chance for the likes of Fleetwood, Pepperell and Hatton to find some form heading into 2019's second major at Bethpage. Homa who? “Nobody knew who I was, no one cared” – Max Homa, 2019 Wells Fargo Champion. Well, this is no longer the case after the American secured a three-shot victory at the weekend to land his maiden PGA Tour title. Homa may not be a household name (he was ranked 413th going into the Wells Fargo) but he did make his PGA Tour debut alongside Justin Thomas at the 2013 Safeway Open. Max Homa finished ninth that week whilst fellow debutant Thomas ended 72nd, and that's where the comparisons end. Thomas would go on to become a Major champion and Ryder Cup star, whilst Homa missed 15 cuts in his 17 starts during his second season on Tour. Quiz time… Homa may have been a long-shot going into the Wells Fargo Championship, but not as long as the 2013 champion who entered the tournament ranked 1207th in the world. Who was he? Some serious golfing knowledge is required for this one (without the help of Google)! Good luck. |
