Captain/ Pro Match

Neil and I played our latest match on Tuesday in the great company of Alan Higgins and Richard Flanagan

Yet again it quickly became clear our opposition were up for the challenge!

We had a great game but we could not match their hot scoring and shook hands on the 16th at which point their better ball was -9

Thanks again all of you for your great company and a super afternoon

Ladies news

Noreen's Final Round

It’s sad to announce that Noreen Bartram is retiring as a longstanding playing member of the club – although she will remain as a social member. She played her LAST round on Tuesday when she played with Lady Captain Judy, Gay Enos and new member Christine Drury playing in her FIRST competition.

Together they won the Florida Scramble with a net 66.3.

Thanks to Noreen for her great contribution to the Club over many years – we look forward to seeing her at future social events – and a warm welcome to Christine who joins from Malton & Norton.

Furthermore, well done to Valerie Little winning the 9 hole Stableford on Tuesday as well.

York Union Aldwark Manor Trophy

Big congratulations to Mabes Embleton and Sonia Simpson winning the York Union Aldwark Manor trophy held at The Oaks, they won with an impressive team score of 39 winning by 1 point from the other competitors. Also a mention to Pat Clark and Val Barrass who finished in 4th in competition well done to all for a great result for the golf club and a big congratulations from the pro shop.

Men's news

Cheal Trophy

This weekend saw the men’s section compete for Cheal Trophy, this competition is played over 18 holes, played off the white tees in a Stableford format. With fair conditions all day the scoring was good throughout the day with the overall winning score been 45 points by David Spencer. The division winners were:

Division 1

Iain Glen - 38 points

Division 2

Mike Wash - 40 Points

Division 3

David Embelton - 35 points

Well done gents for these brilliant scores to win your respected division.

Player Development Camp

Finally, Gents as you all know in the past, we’ve had success running are pre or end of season ladies trip, not wanting to leave the gents out we are currently considering running a gents players development camp in the future.

Seniors news

Veteran’s Trophy

Last week the senior section played for the Veteran’s Trophy, this was played over 18 holes stableford format off the yellow tees. To qualify for this trophy, you need to be over the age of 65,

The event finished in a tie between Michael Howell and Sandy Anderson resulting in a playoff to be played in the future. They both scored a very respectable 39 points on the day,

Club news

Halfway House

The halfway house will be re-opened from Monday by Michelle (TJ’s girlfriend) for the bank holiday scramble, Steve has done a great job whilst he ran operations there and Michelle is hoping to continue this service.

It will also be opening on Tuesdays for Ladies competition days and other busy days through the week when we have members matches on or busy society days.

We hope you will support us with the running of it and any suggestions of things you would like to see in there which isn’t already available would be welcome. (especially the ladies section) We hope to see you in there soon!

The most beautiful shot in golf

If we were to ask you this question what would you say? We think some of you would say the ‘Tiger stinger’ but a good proportion would say the pitch shot that takes a couple of bounces before stopping to a halt. It looks sensational but how on earth do you play it?

The key to making this shot is simple – your wedges. Yes, technique is key and is certainly something we can talk you through during a lesson but without the correct equipment you stand no chance.
