It's nearly anniversary time for York GC as 2015 will be the clubs 125th birthday! There are lots of events planned to celebrate this fantastic milestone and details will be posted well in advance to inform everyone.

Our special anniversary merchandise has started to arrive in the Pro Shop and has already had a great reaction by members. Proving popular has been the brollies and the bag rain covers thanks to some rain this week!! There are lots of items to choose from including headcovers, towels, bags, sweaters, shirts, golf balls to name a few so Christmas shopping should be very easy this year!!!

Continuing the celebration theme we had another hole-in-one last Friday when Kevin Goodrick holed his tee shot on the 2nd. Whilst this feat is special in itself, Kevin made this one extra special as he did a "slam dunk" as you can see in the picture. Very well done Kevin, and I bet that pitch mark was fun to repair!

Whilst the perfect shot is quite rare, the perfect strike is also not as common as we would all like. Studies show that the average golfer misses the sweet spot 76% of the time on their iron shots and this is why there has been some incredible hype about the new TaylorMade irons that have been launched today. With the slots on the face and sole of the club head these clubs are incredibly forgiving. I am sure hearing about these clubs has been wetting your appetite and it is now time to come and put them to the test.

On the Christmas theme we have launched the Pro Shop Christmas Draw this past week, it is just £1 per square and all the takings will be paid back out as shop vouchers, it is a 60%, 30%, 10% split of the total take, so the more squares sold, the more you can win! Last year's winner won a £175 voucher so don't delay, get a square and you might be in for a nice surprise on Christmas Eve this year!

Check your grip

Whilst you should always keep your grips in good order, it is now time to check the grip of your shoes and see how good your studs are in preparation for the months ahead. With the ground conditions changing, we recommend using the champ pro stinger studs which have a metal stud in addition to the soft spike to give you the best of both worlds for ultimate grip.

If you need replacements please call in the Pro Shop and we will fit them while you wait for FREE.

Practice ground news

Further work has been carried out on the practice ground development with the introduction of 2 new target greens. Please don't think there are new practice bunkers to use as it would be a little dangerous!!!!

TJ's short game clinic was a great success at the weekend with 9 people attending and the weather managed to hold off as well! The 3 1/2 hours flew by and everyone had good feedback, here are just a couple of them

"After completing the tests in the session I was able to identify the worst aspects of my short game, and after working on them with TJ in the lesson and on my own since I have been able to improve on my scores, and the first time I went on the course after the class I got up & down 80% of the time, it is well worth doing!"

"Chipping is actually one of my strengths in my game, but after doing the tests I am able to use the results to structure my practice better and focus more on my weaker shots rather than just practicing 'chipping' which will allow me to make my short game strength even stronger! It is a great stepping-stone to use to really improve your short game!"

And this is what TJ has to say about it;

"I was really pleased with how it went, the tests were all completed in approx 2 hours which left us 1.5hours to work on the weakest parts of peoples games. The 50 yard pitch shot showed up in almost everyone's as a weakness so I would advise people reading this to take 10 balls onto the range and stand in the No.1 box 50 yards away from the circled flag on the chipping green and see how many balls you get inside the circles. If it is either 0 or 1 then I strongly advise booking into the last session of this year which is on Sunday, 7 December at 9.00 - 12.30. It is open to both men and ladies so please do not be shy. It is a great, sociable way to improve your short game!"
