For many, The Masters signals the start of the golf season and we don't have long to wait. One of the things that intrigues me most about the whole week is some of the shots the professionals are faced with, and nine times out of ten they seem to pull them off.
Whether it's uphill or downhill lies, intimidating putts across treacherous greens or approach shots littered with card-wrecking danger, we are treated to a vast array of shots during Masters week. My instruction pages might not advise you how to play a low slinging draw off pine needles, but you will find some great tips and advice for all aspects of your game.
Have a browse, and for during those times when you can't get out onto the course to play, or hone your game on the range, take on board a few useful pointers. You might not find yourself teeing it up at Augusta next year, but I guarantee you'll find it useful for shaving a few shots off round here. So click here to take a look at the videos and tips I have for you.
This week starts with a major announcement .................the shoe trade in offer is back!
Not surprisingly this is a popular promotion, and is available for men and ladies shoes. By trading in an old pair of shoes you receive up to £20 OFF your new pair. We are proud to boast that we have the best selection and display of shoes in Yorkshire, which are already at highly competitive prices. Don't delay in taking advantage of this great deal.
The AGM was held on Wednesday which welcomed our new Captains Mike Howell and Marion Bray . Whilst wishing them all the very best for their year ahead, we would also like to say a big well done and thank you to our outgoing Captains Paul Yates and Heather Gott:
It was also great to see Trevor Bailey given Honary life membership in recognition of his many hours (and years!) dedicated to York Golf Club through the numerous roles he has performed. Andy Macey and Paul Yates have been reappointed back onto the committee, and Roy Milner has taken over from Geoff Salter as Trustee as Geoff has stepped down after serving his current 9 year term (ending a period of 45+ years on committee).
Capt - Pro Matches
Paul and I played our final match on weds against Dick Turpin and the Lone Ranger otherwise known as Mike Wells and Stephen Atkinson! Dovetailing better than any joiner could, they used their 14 shots each to great effect and quickly went 5 up through 7. We managed to claw back to 3 down going up the 13th and were gathering momentum. Whilst looking at my short birdie put thinking we may sneak back to 2, Steve drained a great put from the apron for 4 net 3, and I duly missed my put.
A regulation 4 net 3 on the 14th by Steve meant I needed to hole my birdie put to keep the game going and................. I missed ! Ouch 5 & 4 .
Thank you gents for a great game . Thank you also to everyone else who has challenged Paul and I, and helped us enjoy some great games over the past few weeks. We only lost 3 games, all of which were 5 & 4 so we will let everyone know how we decide the eventual winners to take for the day trip to PING's headquarters for the factory tour, and a game at the Lakes course
Capt - Vice Captain Match
On Saturday, the annual Captain v Vice Captain match was played and the "friendly" match was always played in a great spirit . In the opening match Alan Walmsley was on fire helping Paul claim victory. Far be it for me to use the chance to say how great Alan's custom fitted ping i25 driver was!!
