If anyone is moving house soon let us know and we will save you some boxes!!
The excitement keeps building as stock keeps coming and this year, we hope to continue hearing the well used quote from previous seasons....... "this is one of the best Pro Shops I’ve ever been in".
Latest deliveries have included fantastic clothing and footwear from adidas and Ashworth.
With great conditions underfoot on our course, sales of the spikeless shoes have already been strong.
Part of the driving factor behind the success of spikeless shoes (apart from the comfort!) has been the fact that you see many Tour Pro's playing in them. Out of those who choose to wear “traditional” shoes nearly all have chosen either the FootJoy DNA or the Adidas Boost, both of which we have in stock! Be sure to put a spring in your step with new shoes to start the season.

Bag Trade In Promotion
Our bag “Trade-In” has also got off to a great start. Both the TaylorMade and Motocaddy 2015 ranges of bags are in stock so make sure you take advantage of receiving £20 for your old bag in part exchange. Even if you think your bag is “not in bad condition” it will be worth checking the dividers as we commonly find bags can wear there and badly damage any graphite shafts.

Both TJ and I played at Moortown on Wednesday when the Yorkshire PGA was holding their AGM. There is always an optional 4BBB event held before the AGM so we decided to have a go together, and as Moortown is one of my favourite courses I didn't need much persuading! Having got to -5 after 12 we were in a great position, but as the weather took a turn for the worse we lost our momentum and finished -4 which was only 3 shots behind the winning pair.
One of my friends once described our club as the “Moortown of the York area”, and whilst enjoying our round and playing off their fairways it did “feel like home”.
It was very interesting to see the course as I had not played it for over 3 years and I was aware of the fact that a lot of trees had been removed, bunkers re-shaped, heather re-generation...........................sounds familiar?
As just mentioned there has been a lot of work undertaken recently on their course and the picture of a heather regeneration area I took is just one area of many where work is going on. Yes this causes some disruption during the process but this is only “short – term” and well worth the "disruption".
Whilst there has been a lot of publicity in the press about golf and struggling golf clubs, there has also been cases of the strong getting stronger through these tough times, and just like Moortown has set its stall out for the future, so have we here at York.
The work undertaken on the 7th/9th & 17th holes recently gives a great representation as to proposals outlined at the forthcoming AGM. Since this work was carried out there has been a huge amount of compliments from both members and visitors alike, and whilst it is unrealistic to hope to achieve 100% approval for the changes introduced, being very near 100% shows we are going in the right direction.
Using a quote from James Cash Penney – “Change is vital, improvement the logical form of change.”
We have -
Improved aesthetics for bunkers
Improved quality of sand to play from
Improved drainage of bunkers
Improved bunkers as requested by members
This Week – After having a great day at Moortown on Wednesday I was lucky enough to have another great day here on Thursday.
Just like we get organised/excited about the start of the season the golf press do also, and National Club Golfer in association with Ashworth contacted me recently about hosting a photo-shoot for an article in their forthcoming April edition.
As the article comes out next month, the idea was to have the Captain and Professional from 3 clubs play against 3 pairs from the National Club Golfer magazine wearing clothing from the Spring/Summer Ashworth range.
Ralph Magee (as Vice Captain elect) kindly joined me for the day which started at 7.30am as we all got changed into outfits supplied by Ashworth. Keen to showcase our Club we were blessed with good weather and all the foursomes matches were soon underway. Being host club we were scheduled to the NCG editor Dan (Alwoodley member) and his partner James (Moor Allerton member). After 9 holes we were having a great game with the score being all-square. Back to the clubhouse to get changed into outfit number 2, clubhouse photos and then resumption of “the match”.
During the game it was great talking to Dan and James who were clearly avid golf enthusiasts. They were full of praise about the work that we had done at the club and shared our enthusiasm about our future as a club.
Ralph and I had a great start to the back 9 and managed to claim victory 5 & 3 but you will have to wait till next month to see our poses as models and the match result!
I do have a couple of behind the scenes pics until then...........
