As usual The Masters provided great viewing over the weekend and was made even more enjoyable by Colin Montgomerie talking less about himself than usual!!
You simply cannot fail to be impressed by Jordan Spieth. Not only does he have immense talent on the course but he also shows tremendous conduct when not playing.
His score of -18 equaled Tiger's record set nearly 20 years ago. Rather interestingly, Jordan's average drive distance of just over 280 yards was 40 yards short of Tiger's but the course this year was over 600 yards longer!
It has felt like Masters fever has gripped everyone here at the club these past few days. With the nights still drawing out there has been lots of activity on both the range and course.
In addition to lessons and fittings, TJ and I have been busy with various group coaching activities. The junior sessions on a Tuesday evening have got off to a great start and many thanks once again to the Ladies section for helping with the activities that take place.
The Ladies team players have had a couple of "pre-season tune-ups" where the most popular request was sloping lies as you can see on the picture. Good luck Ladies with your first matches soon!
After having a successful "Get-into-Golf" campaign through March we had a great take up of our Academy membership and last Saturday was our first group session for the Ladies. Twelve Ladies attended and the session was great fun. Being an Academy member is a great way to be introduced to the game and through the numerous coaching sessions planned you will develop all the skills required to play.

As you know we always take great delight writing these newsletters as we are often sharing success stories of people who have had fittings or lessons. Already at this early stage in the season there has been some great results achieved and very well done everyone. One such case was Angus Niven.
Since joining in 2012 Angus has steadily been increasing his handicap and recently decided to arrange a driver fit to see if we could help. Having taken data from Angus' shots using our GC2 launch monitor we were able to find a driver and the specification to suit Angus. The result was a TaylorMade R15 driver which was put to the test in the April Medal.
When I saw Angus after he played he was so excited to tell me he played under his handicap for the first time!! Moments like that are just great.
Well done Angus

The first Men's match was played away at Ilkley on Sunday. For those who have not played Ilkley I would certainly recommend it. A lovely course at a lovely location with the river Wharfe often catching stray shots!
Despite atrocious weather, the day was enjoyed by all who took part. Ralph and I had a great game and whilst the game swung both ways we finished with a half and behind us the rest of the team gave a great performance to win.
As often as possible either Mike or Joe will give us a news update regarding Greens news. Here is Joe's news this week:
"This week on the course the green staff have been busy verti-cutting both greens and approaches. This helps to thin the grass sward and remove lateral growth. We followed this up with a topdressing which will help improve speed and trueness of the surface.
Also this week we have had a new machine on demo, the Amazone.
The Amazone is a very versatile machine and can be used for various tasks on the golf course. These include collecting leaves, mowing heather, mowing and scarifying long rough, picking up divots and scarifying fairways."
