What a fantastic few days at the club for our Captain's day's!
216 competitors took part on Saturday which is a new record entry and also another example of how "vibrant" our club is!
As you would expect, Ralph was raring to go on the big day and arrived at the club not long after 6am to enjoy watching the first competitors tee off at 6.44am.
Our popular 7th hole challenge took place again with the prize of 3 TaylorMade balls for anyone making a par. Fortunately for everyone playing the greenstaff were unable to carry out my request of putting a hole in the middle of a lily in the pond!
Dare I use this opportunity to say that the percentage of winners each year is gently increasing? More & more members having lessons and using custom fit clubs.............
Scoring proved tricky throughout the day with not many sub par scores yet again in a competition. Many congratulations to
Travis Crouch who scored a super 40 points to win the Captain's prize.
Travis gave a very gracious speech in which it was quite clear how much he is enjoying his membership here.
The Mixed event on the Sunday was dominated by the
Audsley family which was fantastic to see and even more impressive was the fact that it was Mum & Dad that came first and
Emma and
Nick runners up! You keep showing the youngsters how to do it as it won't last long you two!!
Lady Captains Day on Tuesday was also a great success with a role reversal for helpers in the half way house! I'm trusting there was enough cakes left for the competitors gentlemen, although I have to confess to trying some of the delicious offerings myself!!!!! (and the Pimms was a nice touch also Hilary!!!).
We all know that pigs cannot fly, but here at the Pro shop we have shirts flying out the shop with our shirt amnesty!! If you bring in
ANY old shirt we will give you
£10 OFF ANY shirt in stock (includes men's and ladies shirts) however....................................................................... I was not too happy to see a shirt given to us with my team's logo on!!!!
Seriously though it is a great offer so make sure you do not miss out and remember that all shirts given to us will be donated to charity.
Spikeless shoes - are you wearing a pair yet? If not be sure to call in the Pro Shop and try a pair on to see why they are so popular!

Midsummer Challenge - Don't ever let looks deceive you...................Andy and Wilks are absolute athletes!!!
Many congratulations to you both on achieving your marvellous feat of playing 125 holes in a day. Starting at just before 4am they set off at a cracking pace and were on their 3rd round by the time I got to work at 8am before going on to finish the 125 holes by 6pm!
Not only did they raise over
£2K for York Against Cancer they also played some pretty good golf also! So much so that in future I think they should both play in competitions at the first tee time and aim to finish in less than 2 hours.
Suffice to say when I said there was enough daylight to carry on at 6pm, the look Steve gave me meant words were not needed!
Always looking for ways to improve our newsletter we thought we would share some videos with you from bunkers. Often described as the most forgiving shot in golf, it can also be one that often frustrates golfers! These videos are intended to show that once you grasp the "golden rule" of bunker play the possibilities are endless.............................enjoy.
Video 1 - A one handed bunker shot
Video 2 - Playing a bunker shot with a buried ball
Video 3 - A one legged bunker shot
