Greetings from Mark Rogers
The York Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Hello golfers,

Can you believe its August already?! Dreadful pun but the season is still in full swing with lots going on at our club with various events mixed in with competitions.

Manufacturers are not taking their feet off the pedals either with PING launching two new irons this week.

The i series sees PING using the softer 431 steel for added feel whilst the GMax is their most forgiving club they have made and boy is it LOOOONG!!!!

Look out for them the next time you are down the Club... They really are something else!

If you are looking for a free PING custom fitting please click here and we will book you in.

Pros news

Last week I had a super few days at Muirfield caddying for my son in the Scottish Amateur Championship. Having been there to watch previous Open Championships in 1992 & 2013 it was great to see the course in its "natural" glory and my goodness it was stunning! As you can imagine, being able to have a look around the clubhouse added to the experience but even walking along the road from the car park to the clubhouse was interesting as we passed 2 x Colonels houses!

It is no wonder scoring is difficult at Muirfield. There is often talk of the severity of the Road Hole bunker at St.Andrews but wow - the course is covered by bunkers just as severe. As for the rough you need a combine harvester to get out! James and I had a great time and I'm sure all 256 competitors had goosebumps when they played the course, especially having the privilege of playing the course off the Open tees. James played very well and made it through to the final 32 before being defeated by a previous double winner.

Course news

Back on the home front our greenstaff have been busy as always with lots of work on the bunkers being carried out.

Lots of sand has been removed from the "new" bunkers in an effort to achieve perfect playing conditions and also reduce the chance of balls plugging on the faces.

Greens have been verticut to help maintain both pace and quality of roll and Mick has asked if members can please repair as many pitch marks as possible.
