We are well known as a nation for often talking about the weather, but it is no wonder. These past few days it has been really hot and also had the need for layering up and woolly hats too! And unbelievably still no rain yet but the drainage budget is remaining in place as we all know it will be coming! This prolonged period of dry weather has given us a completely different golf course. The firm fairways has made driving more enjoyable with tee shots going much longer for everyone but these hard conditions have also presented us with a completely different surface for the short game and firm, very fast greens, which is also great and has led to some of the following.

Over hitting pitching around the green - having the correct 'bounce' on your wedges is vital for any surface you are playing off. Those playing with too much bounce on the wedges will find they will be over hitting some times with good strikes but also thinning too many shots when the clubs bounces too much prior to impact. With having the market leading Trackman technology combined with the Vokey wedge fitting software we are one of the few places that offer this great fitting and demo service to experience the differences in wedges.

How the Vokey Wedge Fitting App works

• The app matches data from a player’s technique to various playing conditions to find the right loft, bounce and grind combination for their wedge setup.

• Players will hit a series of shots based on the types of shots they will hit in a round of golf, including full swings, pitch shots and greenside shots with an open face.

• The app then makes recommendations based on how golfers deliver the club differently for various shot types (e.g., full, pitch, open face)

• Working with an expert Vokey fitter, players receive recommended grinds through an interactive process that typically lasts 10-15 minutes.

The Vokey Wedge Fitting App is now being used by select Titleist Fitting Partners in the USA and selected Fitters globally too.

• stopping a ball on the green - this has been quite a common problem which poses various questions such as are you using the best ball to help you with spin ? Just how old are your wedges? Grooves do loose their effect through time which has a huge effect on spin rate.
• Putting - Green reading and consistency of pace and strike are so important for putting and more than ever when the greens are slick ( at this point we must say well done to Mick and his team as the greens are so pure and an absolute pleasure to put on). We have significantly invested in technology and equipment to offer you a great service with improving your putting by evaluating both your technique and your equipment. Trackman have made some amazing developments with the putting side of their software and we are delighted to offer putting sessions using either the studio or the practice green.
